Auto Glass After-Service Care
If your window has been replaced, we recommend you do not drive it for a period of 24 hours. This allows ample time for the urethane to bond and fuse the glass to your vehicle. If you cannot wait 24 hours, we recommend waiting at least an hour or two at the very least. During the first few hours after replacement if you need to close your doors, do so gently. This will reduce the internal air pressure from creating an air gap in the urethane while it is drying. These gaps can eventually cause an air or water leak. If you need to get into the vehicle during this first hour of curing time, roll down your side windows a few inches to minimize the air pressure before closing your door.
The urethane is fully cured between 48 to 72 hours, but your windshield will be fixed securely in place after 24 hours. Giving your windshield less time than needed to properly secure to your vehicle can be a potential safety issue as the glass may not hold should the vehicle become involved in an accident.
You will notice tape applied along the perimeter of the glass after installation is completed. This will help the heavy windshield glass to secure itself in the right position while the urethane is drying. It also keeps the glass from sliding down while driving since the windshield is sitting at an angle. It is recommended you wait for 72 hours before removing the tape.
For window repairs (not replacement), there's not really much aftercare worry and you can drive your car immediately.
